When going through the installation process, I get the following message "It looks like Microtonic is currently running. Try quitting all applications or restarting your computer." I tried that, but it sill does not work. Any suggestions what could be the problem?

    I am using a Mac

Did you try restarting your Mac and actively select to NOT open last programs/windows?

Other than that I'm not sure why the files would be busy. I then suggest you try to remove them manually from /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins check Components, VST and VST3 folders for any trace of Microtonic. Also remove the Microtonic.app if you have one in /Applications/Sonic Charge

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.

However, I found another work around. I installed Microtonic on an older mac I still have. Then I copied the App, VST en AU to my new Mac. That worked!

    Thanks for your help!

After you updated the plugins manually, can you install them again normally?

I’m asking because if you had some really old versions of our plugins on your machine, we used another system back then to check if they were running. I’m wondering if the fallback to this old system is failing on modern macOS.

(The reason we have this check in place is that macOS is overly permissive with file access and will gladly overwrite things even if they’re in use, which can lead to crashes.)
